5th Grade Science Lab Assignment:

Mystery Science Lesson: “Why is Gravity different on other Planets?”

Please click on the Link Below:

https://mysteryscience.com/astronomy/mystery-7/gravity/290?code=NTE2MjI3MA&t=student

In this Mystery, students discover that gravity exists on all planets and moons, but the amount of gravity is different because it depends on how massive the object is.

In the activity, Gravity Jump, students learn about the gravitational pull of the Earth, the Moon, and other places within our Solar System. Students measure how high they can jump on Earth and then calculate how high they would be able to jump on other planets.

The documents attached on the links below are editable which means you should be able to type responses there if you don't have access to a printer. Make sure to click on the links to open!

5th Grade Science Lab Assignment:

Mystery Science Lesson: "What are wandering Stars?"

This Mystery introduces the “wandering stars.” Students will learn what it means to see them with their own eyes, and will learn some interesting discoveries about each one.

In the activity, Running to Neptune, students draw out the planets in our Solar System with chalk on the playground. Then, they play a racing game, running to each planet, reinforcing the names, order, and relative distances between the planets.

Mystery Science Lesson: “Why does the Moon change Shape” (Mystery #5)

Please use the following link to access: https://mysteryscience.com/astronomy/mystery-5/moon-phases-lunar-cycle/77?code=NTE2MjI3MA&t=student

Watch the video and if possible discuss the questions with someone at home. Your teacher might ask some of these questions during your live sessions.

Please NOTE:

The activity part of the Mystery Science lessons is not mandatory due to certain materials that might be needed. This is a time in which we are safer at home, Therefore, the recommendation is to try to find materials that you may have at home if you try to complete the activity.

Parents: please do NOT make any attempt to get materials from anywhere else besides your home during this time! Use your creativity to try to substitute items. Again, the "activity" component is not mandatory if required materials are not available. Try your best!
