About Mrs. Méndez

My family and friends remember me as the girl that always had a book in her hands. The summer I was eleven years old, I decided that I was going to make a list of all the books that I read for the rest of my life! I started with a piece of lined notebook paper and taped subsequent sheets to it once the current one was filled with book titles. That list grew for several years on the walls of the bedroom I shared with my sister. My enthusiasm for reading and teaching reading continues growing today. Reading is fun and creative. It gives the reader context and language in which to reflect and develop their thoughts and ideas. At times it can be comforting and a much needed quiet time in our technological fast paced world. A respite. Reading is knowledge that empowers the reader.

I am extremely proud to be bilingual (English/ Spanish) and hopefully one day trilingual. I attended California State University, Northridge where I studied Child Development  and earned a BA and a BCLAD teaching credential. I like going to museums, visiting nature parks and learning to do new things on the computer. I enjoy long conversations and cooking with my family. I have a little maltipoo dog and two cats!
