Dear Students, Parent(s), and Guardian(s),
Welcome to a new school year! I am very excited to be your teacher. My name is Mr. Buckley, and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our class. I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley and attended college at Loyola Marymount University, where I studied Liberal Studies. I have had the privilege of being a part of Montague Charter Academy since 2000. Together with a team of amazing and creative teachers, I am committed to providing the MCA community with a quality 3rd grade school year for your child.
My goal this year is to have a successful school year accomplishing the Common Core Standards through Distance Learning. I know that this year is starting off differently than you’re used to but let me assure you that I will provide the best for your child.
Attendance is crucial and enables your child to be successful in class. I will take attendance through Schoology and Zoom live lessons. Live lessons will take place beginning at 9:00 am. Your child will attend two 30-40 minute sessions per day, one for reading and one for math. If your child misses the live lessons and does not complete the assigned work, it will affect their progress. Please enforce a bedtime of 9 pm every night to ensure that your child is ready for their live lessons. Children should be waking up at least one hour before the scheduled live lesson. Please make sure that students have eaten breakfast and are dressed and ready to start their school day. I am here to help with assignments and will be scheduling times that students can sign into Zoom to receive assistance.
- STATE MANDATED TIMES for 3rd grade: 230 minutes a day of instructional minutes (At least 60 minutes will be live).
As a teacher, I will establish a positive learning environment. Students are informed of class expectations during distance learning. We will be using ZOOM Classroom etiquette which will be further explained during the first week of school during orientation.
Classwork will be assigned every day. Students must work for 230 minutes per day (State Mandate). This will include at least 60 minutes of live lessons and additional work will be assigned to reinforce and supplement what we are learning. Assigned work will be in various subjects.
All students at Montague will be graded on the traditional 4, 3, 2, 1 grading scale.
4 (90%-100%) Exceeds Grade Level Standards
3 (70%-89%) Meets Grade Level Standards
2 (60%-69%) Partially Meets Grade Level Standards
1 (0%-59%) Not Meeting Grade Level Standards
Please keep all school materials in one place and location. Every child must have a quiet place to work and learn free of siblings, TV, and other distractions. The area should be a desk/ table with school supplies.
If you need assistance with technology you can email our Montague Tech team at email@example.com or call 818-351-9773.
You can also email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact me through Class Dojo. Please email me when you can so I have your email on file with your name, the name of your child, and the easiest phone number to reach you. If we work together, the children will achieve more and have a better educational experience.
Thank you for taking the time to read this important letter.
I am looking forward to meeting you. Let’s have a great year!
