Mystery Science Lesson: “Have you ever watched a storm?”

Please Click on the Link Below:

https://mysteryscience.com/watching/mystery-1/weather-conditions/107?code=NTE2MjI3MA&t=student

In this Mystery, students start to notice changes in the weather.

In the activity, Be a Weather Watcher, they learn the different factors involved in describing the weather, then observe and draw the weather around them.

Attached below is the "Weather Drawing Printout" If you don’t have access to a printer, students can draw their weather observations on any other paper available.

Make sure to use details in your drawing! For example, if it’s sunny did you draw a sun? Did you draw a person wearing the appropriate clothing or for that day’s weather?

Parents: You can have your children make weather observations & drawings to go along on multiple days.

BUILD  A BIRD NEST ACTIVITY:

Different birds lay their eggs in different places. Some build tiny nests in bushes, some build enormous nests in tall trees!

Can you build a nest that will hold an egg? Can you build it better than a bird?  Give it a try. If you can go outside, gather twigs, leaves, and grass to build with — just like birds do!

If you can’t go out, use torn paper, rolled up paper, string, and other materials you might have at home. Remember: birds use materials they find outside in nature.

When you’re done building, test your nest with something round — like a marble, or even a real egg!

Have fun and be creative! You may use Mystery Doug's "top 5 Bird Nests" to help you get ideas.

Parents please click on the link below:

https://mysteryscience.com/secrets/mystery-4/animals-changing-the-environment/142?code=NTE2MjI3MA&t=student

In this Read-Along Mystery, Desiree notices all the holes in the trees around her house—and sets out to discover how they got there, and why they matter. The Mystery includes a short exercise where students listen for animal sounds and pretend to be woodpeckers.

Parents: Please have your child start thinking of how to design and build a "bird nest." What materials from nature can be used to build a nest? What items do you have at home already to help you build a bird's nest?
